Gunnar Eyewear Impressions – new eco-friendly collection! — Gaming trends

I’ve always been a fan of Gunnar eyewear. I was introduced to them through the Game Grumps YouTube channel in 2016 and ended up buying a pair for work since I sit in front of a computer most days. However, I didn’t wear contact lenses at the time and ended up getting “six eyes” and wearing contact lenses over my glasses. Last year I tried Gunnar’s prescription glasses from Marvel’s collaboration with Tony Stark. Now we’re back to square one, trying out the Arbor glasses along with the Muir and Humboidt Ebony Clear Pro glasses.
The best part is that these are eco-friendly glasses. The ebony glasses come in an eco-friendly box, case and carrying case reinforced with a carbon fiber interior. Their new collection is very beautiful.
To do this, I decided to see how over-the-counter glasses would work with my contact lenses and hired my partner Regan to test them out while working on data analysis and playing video games at the end of the day. We’ve had equal success with both pairs being very comfortable and they’ve been very helpful in reducing eye strain as our work requires a lot of screens.
The Humboidt glasses are about the same size as the Tony Stark glasses I already have, except for the adjustable nose pads. For people like us who have had broken noses before, the lack of nose pads does limit comfort a bit, but neither of us found them to be in the least bit uncomfortable, they just made us more aware of the shape of our noses; They are smooth to the touch and non-slip, which is why I usually have problems wearing glasses without these nose pads.
Both pairs are also Clear Pro rated, which means they have blue light protection like other Gunnar products, and the lenses don’t have a yellow tint, making them more like “regular” glasses you might get from your local eye doctor . Clear Pro blocks 20% of 450nm blue light and Amber blocks 65% of 450nm blue light. Our eyes are still protected, my eyes are less strained, and my migraines are less frequent. However, I personally see myself wearing Amber and Regan will wear Clear Pro.
I didn’t notice much of a difference in vision between these glasses and Tony Stark’s, which is surprising given the lack of yellow tint. I have never experienced eye dryness while wearing them, which I discussed with Dr. Miki Zilnick in the July 2023 Gaming Trend “We Interview” series (link here).
As someone who suffers frequently from migraines, I live with Gunnar’s glasses. Since I have Gunnar’s prescription glasses, I stopped wearing contact lenses to keep my migraines to a minimum. Testing them without a prescription allowed me to improve my appearance while protecting myself from migraines and eye strain. For anyone who suffers from migraines, I highly recommend finding a pair of Gunnar glasses that are right for you. They really do matter.
My partner Regan (who has 20/20 vision) feels the difference between playing video games with them and without them. We played a lot of Baldur’s Gate 3 together, and wearing glasses was even more fun. On top of that, although their work computers had blue light protection built in, they found that it helped improve the lighting in their space, which can sometimes be quite harsh for long periods of time.
Overall, myself (who has very poor vision) and Regan (who has near-perfect vision) enjoyed our experience with the Arbor series and plan to continue using them for work and play.
